TEMPLE was founded in San Francisco in 2023 by artist and designer Eric Hildebrandt. At the beginning of the 21st century, he published an alternative arts and culture magazine, then spent 15 years working as an executive in contemporary and luxury furnishings. TEMPLE is the synthesis of those experiences, bringing an unexpected and unique approach to an ancient craft.

TEMPLE rugs activate a space. They command attention and elicit emotions. The designs start from the smallest artistic gesture – a graphic glitch, a smudge on glass or the edge of a sculpture. The textural quality of the pile heights, carving and shapes are central to the aesthetic approach and the visual and tactile experience of the rugs. Each rug is densely hand-knotted using the highest-quality natural materials, such as Tibetan wool, pure silk and alpaca. The quality is crafted by centuries of knowledge and skilled hands in Nepal. They are truly Landscapes for Living.

TEMPLE was awarded the 2024 Gray Magazine GRAY award and was a nominee for the 2023 Interior Design magazine Best of Year award. TEMPLE was also featured at Design Miami LA, Carpet Diem Paris and on Architectural Digest’s “Space Savers.”
